I'm not a fan of SEO, but 'is cottage cheese good' was overwhelmingly at the top of the list of people asking about cheese health. So, I decided to answer this question.
I'll just list a bullet list into why cottage cheese is mostly healthy, but the real value add is the Cheese Nutrient Database I created down below. Simply select a cheese from the dropdown list and get a summary of its nutritional profile. Then, answering a question like 'Is cottage Cheese good for you' becomes easier, and answered with more context.
Short Answer: Cottage Cheese is Mostly Good For You
In general, cottage cheese is generally healthy:
- if you are trying to bulk up; it is high in protein
- it is rich in essential vitamins, including calcium, B vitamins, potassium, and selenium
- A half cup of cottage cheese is about 90 calories...you could do worse.
The reason it is controversial is that its also high in sodium and saturated fats, both of which can very harmful when taken in high doses. It has no fiber. Also, 90 calories....while you could do better, you could do worse.
Regardless, a picture is worth a thousand words, and a P5.js animation is worth a thousand pictures. Here's a comparison between cottage cheese and other types of cheeses. I call this the Cheese Database. Enjoy.
